Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon seedless or de-seeded
  • 8 fresh basil leaves basil leaves or mint leaves for variation
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, for added sweetness
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Prepare the watermelon by cutting it into manageable chunks, removing seeds if necessary.
  2. Place the watermelon chunks into the blender along with fresh basil leaves and honey, if using.
  3. Add the ice cubes to the blender to ensure the mixture becomes icy and refreshingly cold.
  4. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and frosty, about 30-45 seconds.
  5. Stop the blender and check the consistency — it should be thick and slushy. If needed, blend a few seconds more for extra ice incorporation.
  6. Pour the icy watermelon basil mixture into chilled glasses, and garnish with a small basil leaf or a wedge of lime for visual appeal.
  7. Serve immediately with a straw or a stirrer and enjoy this vibrant, bubbly slushie on a hot day.

Notes

For a sweeter version, add more honey or agave syrup. Mint can be used as a refreshing alternative to basil. Adjust ice amount for desired thickness.
